"The articles about from last November about NISSAN hiring 1000+ during an 18 month time period from the DNJ and Tennessean are MIA but articles from "other" news agencies are still on the web....that seems strange...Maybe the Tennessean did the PUFF PIECE because Gannett is 'really' a marketing company and NOT a news organization?..I bet we see more NISSAN pop up ads on the Tennessean website." MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
"There are about 1,100 jobs up for grabs at Nissan's plant in Smyrna" channel 4 News
They said back then said NISSAN was hiring 1000+ and it would take 18 months.... The Tennessean reported on the SAME jobs....
Basically the Tennessean is doing a HEADLINE story saying the "SAME" jobs they talked about 3 months about are "again" being created.
Is that FRESH News? no..... it's WRONG

More than 5,000 people attended a job fair on Wednesday for the opportunity to apply for one of the hundreds of available jobs at the Nissan plant in Smyrna. http://www.wkrn.com/story/15938477/thousands-attend-nissan-job-fair

Oddly the jobs that the Tennessean is "touting" are the SAME ones they wrote about in November and December..... It seems like more articles have been created than jobs.....
"In addition, about 1,300 workers will be hired to make lithium-ion batteries for the Nissan Leaf electric car and to add Leaf production to the Smyrna plant in early 2013" from the article by C. Williams of the Tennessean
What are the "odds" of those Electric Car Taxpayer funded jobs happening?
Nissan has only sold 676 or so Leafs in January....
Is America going to need 200,000 batteries a year?

Robert, I currently work for Yates
in Smyrna. I've been employed at the facility for a little over a month. The
staring pay as of May 1st will be 12.50 for day shift and 13.25 for night
shift. From my understanding in conversations with Nissan employees, Yates is
basically Nissan. Nissan hasn't hired a production employee since 2003. The
only positions I see on the bulletin for Nissan job openings are supervisors,
engineers, and other specialized positions. The rest of the positions,
(assembly techs, picker /packer, forklift, etc) are all contracted out. The days of making 26.00 an hour
for shooting screws on the assembly line are over, sadly. The top out
pay is 18.50 for Yates at a projected rate of $1 raise per year. As for whether
or not you’ll like the job, that’ll be based on whether you like working in a
manufacturing environment and other factors. I do not desire to work here long
term because I have other ambitions. Yet with that said, Yates is a great
company with good benefits. There's also a lot of opportunity for growth if you
so wish. Good luck

ive never heard of any places doing training so Im not really trusting this
rumor, but after my interview ill try to remember to get back on here and let
ya know what they said. Yes u do train without pay.... If u r willing to train without pay. And pass them u have a shot at the job. Good luck

I have an upcoming interview with Yates at the career center. Is Yates a temp agency like Kelly or Ranstad or is it basically an avenue for Nissan to save money? Do you get benefits like regular Nissan employees? Any info about the hiring process or any other additional info would be helpful. Thanks.
Yates is not a temp agency they are a permanant sub-contractor for nissan, they have been at the nissan plant in smyrna since they opened up the plant. they are also the ones building the new battery plant at nissan.im currently going through training right now with yates its a 3 week process where u only go 1 day a week which is either friday or a saturday its unpaid and when your done they will have a nissan and yates supervisor evaluate you on your last day of training to decide to hire you or not. you get your benefits when you start your actuall job is what ive been told so far.

After your interview they call you
to set up a drug test that you have to go to the nissan plant and take. That
person that calls about the drug test will also ask you what days do you want
to come in for your 3 days of training. They have fridays 7am-4:15 or saturdays
same time. This is done at there training center
